Newlon Housing Trust is a charitable housing association founded in Hackney in 1968 to provide decent and affordable homes for local people in housing need. We now provide nearly 8,000 affordable homes. These include social rented, key worker, supported and shared ownership properties.
Today we work across north and east London, including homes in Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.
Newlon is one of the largest developers of new affordable housing in London, including homes for Intermediate Rent. Our homes were originally built for London’s Key Workers, but this criteria has now widened.
We usually offer Intermediate Rent homes at up to 70% of market rent. A market rent is what you would expect to pay in the private rented sector. A good indication of what market rents in the area are likely to be is to check with estate agents.
The majority of our Intermediate Rent homes are apartments which are recently or newly built, designed to a high specification. We do have a small number of converted flats in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Most of our flats are self-contained although we accept applications for two bedroom flats from people who want to share. Most of our properties are one and two bedroom flats, although we have a small number of three bedroom flats.
With Newlon you can be sure of a long-term tenancy because, although you need to sign for a minimum of six months, we do not set a time limit. Unlike many private landlords we do not ask you to renew your tenancy every six months.
