About our homes

Newlon Housing Trust is a charitable housing association founded in Hackney in 1968 to provide decent and affordable homes for local people in housing need and provides nearly 8,000 affordable homes which are let as social housing, housing for key workers, supported housing and shared ownership.

Today we work across north and east London, and rent Intermediate Rent flats predominately in Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

We are one of the largest developers of new affordable housing in London and one of the main providers of new homes for Intermediate Rent, homes specifically built for London’s Key Workers.  This criteria has now widened and, where stated, some intermediate housing will be available to working people in the local area.

These homes are usually offered at up to 70% of private market rents and are designed to provide affordable, secure, high-quality rented accommodation in the local areas.  A market rent is what you would expect to pay in the private rented sector.  A good indication of what market rents in the area are likely to be is to check estate agent lettings or websites. The majority of our Intermediate Rent homes are apartments which are recently or newly built.  The majority have balconies and are built to a high specification, including a high level of security which is appreciated by our tenants who work shifts.  We do have a small number of converted flats in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. The majority of our flats are self-contained although we do accept applications for two bedroom flats from people who want to share. Most of our properties are one and two bedroom flats, although we do have a small number of three bedroom flats which are very popular and become available occasionally.

With Newlon you can be sure of a long-term tenancy because although there is a minimum of six months, we do not set a time limit and we have a number of tenants who have been with us for over six years, which is when we first started letting intermediate rented housing. Unlike many private landlords, we do not ask you to renew your tenancy every six months.

Newlon is a ‘not for profit’ organisation with a proud history of supporting the communities of north and east London. If you are looking for an affordable home, why not register with us to find out what is available?
